The charming mountain village of Imlil is a must-see for hikers who want to tackle the 4,167 m (13,822 ft) peak of Mount Toubkal, Africa’s second-highest peak after Kilimanjaro. Located 64 km (40 mi) from Marrakech, Imlil is also a gateway to the stunning Toubkal National Park.
After crossing the Asni Gorge, a picturesque village known for its weekly Saturday souk, the road continues along a green valley where the mountains, impressive natural bastions, play with colors… halfway up the slope nestle Berber villages with mud houses surrounded by terraced crops. Each of the villages is nestled against the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, and built in tiers. A succession of very varied landscapes and lush vegetation.
A mule ride to the village of Aremd is planned to admire the panoramic view of the Imlil valley and that of Toubkal… The American film “Seven years in Tibet” was filmed in this region…
